A Highland Dream @ Andy Taylor Photography

This super-chilled intimate wedding in the idyllic Scottish Highlands with the most joyous of couples is giving us all the feels! Having met in the first week of uni, Jess and Josh were besties from the beginning before things got more romantic. Ten years later, Josh booked a surprise holiday for Jess’s birthday: a log cabin in the Highlands of Scotland. As Jess puts it, it was “out of this world”, and it was on a beautiful glen with nobody around (except their adorable dog) that Josh proposed. It was gorgeously sunny and warm, despite being March and, well, the Highlands (!), and they loved the whole setting so much that they decided to return there and get married a year later. When they discovered that the same cabin was available, even though the cabins usually got booked up months in advance, they felt it was meant to be, and got married on its decking. The cabin is so special to both of them that its co-ordinates are engraved on both Jess’s engagement ring and both of their wedding bands. Keen to not have anything big or showy, the only guests were the registrar, Jess’s Mum and Dad, and two dogs – and the occasional deer made an appearance!

“Both Donna and Jo at Alice Rose are absolutely amazing. I genuinely have no words to do them justice. It was the one and only bridal shop that I contacted, and with only three months to plan our wedding I hadn’t appreciated quite how up against it I was in terms of the time frame for getting a dress. However, from the very first message, Donna was so warm and welcoming and put me at ease, saying she could definitely help. I booked straight away, and Mum and I had such a magical experience. The shop is so beautifully laid out and magical, and the ladies were so respectful of budget and didn’t rush us.”

“I genuinely didn’t have my mind at all set on what I wanted – all I knew was that I didn’t want anything too over the top as it wouldn’t have matched the wedding. I wanted something I just felt nice in, and comfortable, yet beautiful. I tried on about five dresses, but knew I’d found my dress in Talia, by Romantica of Devon, as soon as I tried her on. My Mum was in happy tears and we said, this is the one.”

“I spent a lot of our wedding day outside and tromping across fields in, so I needed a dress I could move in, and Talia had a train with a beautiful scallop design that I could pick up easily. She fit in with the low-key cabin outdoorsy vibe, yet had such super pretty detailing at the top, which, as Jo pointed out, included little leaves. When it came to accessories, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without their help – I really trusted them and I’m so thankful! I loved the diamond details on the veil, and the lace trainers were a godsend for trekking across the hills whilst still looking pretty! I also want to add how amazing Gali, the seamstress, was – she did a phenomenal, amazing job!”

Do what makes you happy @Andy Taylor Photography

“My advice with both the dress and the wedding itself is go with whatever makes you happy – do what is right for you. And it goes so quickly, so soak it up!”
